Opportunities

Whether you are interested in working at a blood drive or in an office, we have a volunteer opportunity available for you. Find a position that suits you and join the mission of the Red Cross today!

Canteen Server (Center or Blood Drives)
The canteen server provides refreshments to the donors following their donation, makes them feel good about what they've done and observes donors for signs of possible reaction. They also provide recognition for donors that have reached a donation milestone. It is important that they promote a positive, long-lasting impression of the Red Cross. Position is available at the Heart of America Blood Donation Center or on blood drives.
Internships
Internships are available. Please contact the volunteer recruitment representative to learn more about how you can gain work experience and help the Red Cross at the same time.
Blood Drive Greeter
The greeter meets donors at the door, introduces the donation process and guides the donor through the first steps of the donation. Greeters work with Red Cross staff to ensure donors move through the process smoothly. Greeters often have the greatest impact on donors because they are the first to meet and greet them.
Office Assistant
You can provide important support for our mission by assisting with monthly mailings. We send out over 32,000 pieces of mail each month. As an office assistant, you will put labels on flyers, stamps on postcards and help put together important blood drive materials. Office assistants can work alone or with an established group of volunteers.
General Services Assistant
The general services assistant works with our general services department doing light maintenance duties. If you enjoy working outside, this is the ideal position for you.
Telerecruitment Assistant
The telerecruitment assistant calls scheduled blood donors to remind them of their appointment to donate. It is essential for all donors who have agreed to donate to come and donate as scheduled.
Donor Recruitment Assistant
The donor recruitment assistant calls donors to schedule them for a donation appointment. A candidate for this position must be outgoing and possess good phone and customer service skills.
Hospital Services Driver
The hospital services driver transports the blood from a Red Cross location to area hospitals where it will be used to treat patients in need. Hospital services drivers also pick up donated blood from blood drives and transport the life saving blood to the Red Cross. Hospitals and patients rely on the dedication and commitment of the drivers. Drivers can specify a set schedule or can choose to be "on call" when urgent help is needed at hospitals in other communities.
